- Earlier and discontinued Fargo models are worth asking about. We have carried this line for four decades.

What usually goes wrong on a Fargo
- Print head wear. Fine white lines down the card, or dropouts that survive a cleaning cycle, usually mean the head rather than the ribbon.
- Transfer roller and film problems on HDP models. Retransfer printers lay an image onto film and then fuse it to the card, so wrinkled film, poor adhesion, or images that lift at the card edge point at the transfer stage, not the print stage.
- Card feed and roller wear. Misfeeds, double feeds, and cards entering skewed.
- Ribbon sensing and calibration drift. Fargo printers calibrate to the ribbon, and a drifting sensor reads as color shifts or constant ribbon errors.
- Encoder modules. Magnetic stripe and credential encoders that stop writing while printing stays fine.
Worth knowing about Fargo printers
Fargo splits into two very different machines. The DTC line prints straight onto the card, and the HDP line prints onto retransfer film that is then fused to the card, which is what lets it print over the edge and handle technology cards without punishing the head. They fail differently and they get serviced differently, so tell us which one you have when you send it in. If you are not sure, the model number on the label is enough.
How the repair works
The process is the same for every brand. Start a service request, send the printer to our Woodridge bench with the completed form, and we diagnose it and quote it before any work happens. Nothing gets repaired until you approve the price. The full sequence, including what to pack and the repair terms, is on our ID card printer repair page.
