What rebadging means

Rebadging is issuing new ID cards to the people you already have, whether that's a new logo after a rebrand, a cleaner card design, more durable stock, or a more secure credential. The goal is a consistent, up-to-date badge in every wallet and on every lanyard, without disrupting the access and identification your badges already do every day.

Card Imaging has rebadged organizations of every size since 1984, from a single-site office to multi-location employers reissuing thousands of cards. We handle the design, the printing, the encoding, and the logistics so the switch is smooth.

When organizations rebadge

  • A rebrand or merger that changes your logo, name, or colors on every badge.
  • A new printer brand or card stock that needs a matched, consistent design across the population.
  • A security upgrade from easily cloned 125 kHz prox to encrypted HID iCLASS SE or SEOS credentials.
  • Worn, mismatched, or inconsistent badges accumulated over years of ad-hoc reissues.
  • A new access-control system that expects a different card format (often paired with a full system migration).

How we rebadge your population

  • Audit your current cards, credential technology, and card format so new cards match or cleanly upgrade what your readers expect.
  • Design the new card, front and back, on-brand and print-ready.
  • Print and encode in bulk, full-color single- or dual-sided, with the right encoding written to each card.
  • Phase the rollout so employees and members swap to the new badge in an orderly way instead of all at once.

Keep people moving

The last thing a rebadge should do is leave anyone stuck at a door or a desk. We plan the changeover so old and new badges keep working through the transition, and coordinate the handoff so nobody loses access mid-switch. For large populations we can print and ship in waves that match your rollout schedule.

Bulk re-encoding and credential upgrades

Rebadging is the natural moment to improve security. We re-encode cards to your facility code and format, and can move you from legacy HID Prox up to iCLASS SE, iCLASS SR, or SEOS so the new badge is both better looking and harder to clone. We program HID credentials to your exact facility code and format; we do not program generic MIFARE or non-HID smart chips.

Rebadging or migration?

Rebadging reissues cards on the system you already run. If you're also changing the printer platform or the access-control system underneath, that's a system migration, and the two often happen together. Not sure which you need? Tell us what's changing and we'll map it out.

Where we do this

We serve organizations across Illinois from our Woodridge bench, and we keep a local page for each city with detail specific to that area. A few of the busiest:

FAQ

ID Card Rebadging questions.

What's the difference between rebadging and migration?
Rebadging reissues new cards to your people on the access system you already run. A migration changes the underlying system, a new printer platform or a new access-control system. They're often done together, and we handle both.
Do we have to reissue everyone at the same time?
No. We plan a phased rollout so the new badges roll out in an orderly way and nobody loses access during the switch. For large populations we print and ship in waves.
Can you upgrade our prox cards to something more secure during the rebadge?
Yes. A rebadge is the ideal time to move from legacy 125 kHz HID Prox up to encrypted HID iCLASS SE, iCLASS SR, or SEOS. We program the new HID credentials to your facility code and format.
Can we keep our existing facility code and card numbers?
If you're staying on the same access system, yes, we match your existing facility code and numbering so the new cards work exactly like the old ones.
Do you print the new cards too, or just plan it?
Both. We can print and encode the entire run in-house and ship finished cards, or supply the printer, ribbons, and stock so you can print in-house.
