Chris Rajki reviews the Evolis Primacy 2, a direct-to-card printer used for employee IDs, door access cards and hotel key cards.
What sets the Primacy 2 apart
The Primacy 2 is a direct-to-card printer that prints at 300 DPI. Chris makes the point that DPI alone does not decide print quality. The printer's hardware and firmware do, which is why two 300 DPI printers can produce noticeably different cards. Cards are protected by an overlay panel rather than a separate laminate, and in his view that holds up just as well.
It comes single-sided or dual-sided, and a single-sided unit can be upgraded later with a dual-sided module. If you print on both sides often, Chris recommends the dual-sided model, which turns the card over inside the printer instead of making you do it by hand. The Primacy 2 replaced the original Primacy with faster printing, better reliability and more features.
It carries a three-year warranty, and Card Imaging provides setup support, technical help and ongoing maintenance, which matters most when a large print job is waiting.
