The Evolis lineup we stock
Evolis builds compact machines that run quietly in an office. The Zenius 2 is the single-sided model for straightforward badge printing. The Primacy 2 is the volume machine, single or dual-sided, and it is the one most of our Evolis customers buy. The Agilia is a dual-sided retransfer printer for edge-to-edge artwork on smart cards and for work that has to look printed rather than badged.
Evolis ribbons by model
The ribbon part number is tied to the printer generation, and this is where Evolis orders go wrong most often. The R5F208A100 YMCKO is the Primacy 2 ribbon at 300 prints. The R5F008AAA is the original Primacy ribbon and does not fit a Primacy 2. The R5F202A100 is the Zenius 2 ribbon at 200 prints. Check the number on the spool you are replacing, not the shape of it. Retransfer with the Agilia
The Agilia prints onto film and bonds it to the card, so the image covers the whole surface including the edges, and it prints cleanly over a chip or an antenna that leaves the card face slightly uneven. That is the reason to pay retransfer money: a direct-to-card printer leaves a white margin and struggles on an uneven surface.
Still running an older Evolis
Plenty of original Primacy printers are still printing every day, and we keep supporting them. The R5F008AAA ribbon, the ACL002 cleaning kit and bench repair are all still available, and Primacy 1 supplies gathers everything that fits one onto a single page. If you are choosing a new Evolis today, look at the Zenius 2, the Primacy 2 or the Agilia above.
