Printing Both Sides on a Single-Sided Printer

1:22 · Published January 29, 2016 · Watch on YouTube

You can print a two-sided card on a single-sided printer by feeding the card through twice. This demonstration shows the whole process.

How the two-pass method works

A single-sided printer prints one face of the card at a time, but that does not limit you to one-sided cards. Design the card with both a front and a back in your card design software, print the front, then take the card out, turn it over, feed it back in and print the back.

It is a practical approach for small runs. If you print two-sided cards regularly, a dual-sided printer turns the card over inside the printer and saves the manual step.

The short version

  • Your design needs both a front and a back layout.
  • Print the front, turn the card over by hand, then print the back.
  • For regular two-sided printing, a dual-sided printer does the turning for you.
