Crisp Black Text on an Evolis Primacy: Setting the K Panel

0:59 · Published January 26, 2016 · Watch on YouTube

If black text on your Primacy cards looks gray or blotchy, one driver setting usually fixes it. This video shows exactly where it is.

Where the setting lives

Color ribbons include a dedicated black panel, called the K panel, for sharp black text and barcodes. On an Evolis Primacy you choose how the printer uses it in the driver. Open Evolis Print Center, right-click your Primacy and choose Properties, then go to Printing, Front side, Graphical settings, and find Black panel adjustment.

Set it to All black dots or Only black text. If your card has dark photos or images that contain black, choose Only black text, so the K panel handles the lettering and the color panels handle the pictures. That avoids spotting in your photos. Click Apply, then OK, and print your card.

The short version

  • The K panel prints true black from the ribbon.
  • The setting is under Black panel adjustment in the Primacy driver.
  • Use Only black text when cards carry dark photos.

Recorded on the original Evolis Primacy. Menu names can differ slightly in newer drivers.
