About the Card Imaging Fargo HDP6600 Dual sided 600 DPI ID Card
The HDP6600 is a retransfer printer, which means it prints your design onto a clear film first and then fuses that film onto the card. The practical difference is that the image runs right over the edge with no white border, and cards with a chip or a slightly uneven surface still come out clean. It prints at 600 dpi, twice the resolution of a standard direct-to-card machine.
It is quick for what it is, at up to 230 cards an hour in full color. A SmartScreen OLED panel on the front tells you what the printer is doing without opening the software, and 1 GB of memory keeps longer batches moving. Card thickness from 30 to 40 mil is all in range, so it will take heavier access credentials as well as standard PVC.
The options cover what an ID office usually needs a year in: magnetic stripe encoding on all three tracks, contact and contactless encoding, and the LMX lamination module if your cards have to survive a few years on a lanyard. Security is built in rather than bolted on, with AES-256 encryption and resin scramble protection on the data sent to the printer. Printers bought on or after 1 August 2024 carry a four year warranty that includes a year of loaner coverage.
It runs the 84911 YMCK ribbon at 750 images and the 84900 clear film at 1,500, so you go through two ribbons for every roll of film. Order them in that ratio and you will not end up with a shelf of film and no ribbon.
