SLE4442 cards are contact chip cards, the kind you insert into a reader rather than tap. The chip is a small memory chip with its own security code, which is why they turn up in vending, laundry, copy and print accounts, and membership systems: anywhere a balance or a credit count has to live on the card itself rather than on a server.

These are standard CR-80 cards, the same size as a credit card, in 30 mil PVC. They also carry a high-coercivity magnetic stripe across all three tracks, so one card can work with a chip reader and a swipe reader at the same site. High-coercivity stripes hold their data far better than the low-coercivity kind when a card lives in a pocket next to a phone.

The surface is blank and takes any direct-to-card printer, so you can print artwork, a photo and a name on the front. They ship unprogrammed. We encode HID proximity and iCLASS credentials in house, but a chip card like this one is written by your own system.
